

Sisir Datta
is a senior graphic artist based in New Delhi.
He was born in 1975 in Kolkata. His inspiration to be an artist is found in his family roots as his grandfather as well as his father were both artists. From very young age he was fond of making clay idols. Apart from his studies during his school days he was busy engaging in drawing, painting, and experimenting with other various kinds of handicrafts which won him numerous prizes already in his early years. This opened the door for his ultimate journey becoming an artist. Well renowned Indian artists among others Satyajit Ray, Debiprasad Roy Choudhury, Somendranath Thakur, Indra Dugar and Ganesh Halui early on appreciated his works.
Later on he joined the Bagnan Ananda Nikaten Vidya Mandir, Government College of Art, Kolkata and completed his BFA in the year 1981. During this period he started teaching drawing and painting and directed a number of shows for Kolkata Doordarshan.
Subsequently he joined Govt. Press, Nasik as an artist. He won commendation from Late Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, then President of India for his designing of Postal Stamps on 'Human Rights for All', the great freedom fighter 'Khudiram Bose' and the 'Indian Labour Organisation'. He also worked as Art Director in various advertising companies and his art work is well appreciated. He also contributed in other art showcases like India International Film Festivals organized by Govt. of India during the period from 1994 to 2004.
He loves working with watercolour, tempara and oil. The subject he loves to explore through his works is the human life and its emotions. He has a special inclination towards painting the life of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda and these were exhibited and acclaimed at Allahabad, Mumbai and Delhi in recent years. He also devoted part of his time to the Rama Krishna mission and contributed in many of their charity work.
The latest exhibition of Datta was part of the Indraprastha Art Fest, New Delhi, 2012' and Award Ceremony of 3rd Friendz of Art Awards 2012. This exhibit featured the themes 'Lady with Lotus' and 'Lady with Cactus'. Both speak volumes about their style and temperament.
Previously many famous Indian artists have been awarded with this prestigious award like Ngma, Aifacs, Ignca, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Padmashree Ram V. Sutar and Shri Keshav Malik to name a few.
